 Shuai Jiao encompasses many means of throwing an opponent to the ground.

 

Some consider it to be the oldest form of kung fu martial arts and said to have originated more than two thousand years ago. In many ancient civilizations, the first combative techniques to be invented are wrestling or grappling techniques. 

 

There are 4 elements  that can work well when used in combination. Striking, kicking, throwing, and submission locking techniques should intertwine to make the practitioner fluid at all ranges of combat. The philosophy of the martial art of Shuai Chiao as a self defense art is to use punches, kicks and joint-locks in addition to throwing the opponent to the ground.

What is in a Shuai Jiao ?

General sport specific conditioning to improve cardio, strength and flexibility. Foot work and stance drills to improve stabilty whilst executing techniques on an opponent. Throwing and take down ptactice. Syllabus work for those of you wishing to learn the system in its entirety. 

What do you need to know?

  • Classes are unisex and we do not have dedicated male or female only classes.
  • Classes are mixed for adults and children on various days of the week.
  • An annual membership is required after the 4 week trial period
  • Classes involve contact.

 

# What to wear

Training attire is general fitness clothing such as tracksuit, shorts, t-shirt.

Boxing or wrestling boots are allowed during Shuaijiao sessions.

Earings or piercings are not permitted to be worn during training unless covered by clothing tape or plasters.

# Pro tips

Be on time for training. These are group classes which means we train as a group, holding up a class will not be tolerated.

Do not chew gum whilst training.

Do not spit on the mats

Respect and help your training partners

Regular practice means greater improvement. Don't expect to improve as quick as someone if your attendance is poor.
